Portrait Sculpture Intensive |
An opportunity for students to sculpt a life-like portrait in clay, working directly from the model. Designed for all levels of ability, Rick Casali's innovative teaching style embraces the French concept of "secret figure", a knowledge/concept approach to understanding the Portrait. This unique 5-day workshop will consist of daily sculpture demos by Casali covering proportion, pose, geometric planes, and the anatomy of the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and the forms of the hair. Thorough measurements of each model will be recorded prior to class as a reference. Students will have their choice of a male or female model, model fee TBA. Figure Painting Alla Prima |
This class explores the nude figure in beautiful north light. Instructor will lecture on anatomy, geometric structure, color, and the concept of light, shadow, and halftone. The class embraces the "Alla Prima" technique made famous by artists such as Sargent, Zorn, and Sorolla. Basic drawing skills required. A model fee of $50 is due at the first class. Portrait Drawing in Charcoal |
Learn to draw realistic portraits! Here students will learn to set up the attitude of the head, judge proportions, and explore the power of light and shade. Lectures will be given on the geometric planes of the head, organic rhythms, and the anatomy of individual features. No prior experience necessary. A model fee of $50 is due at the first class. Figure Sculpture Workshop |
This three day course is for painters and sculptors wishing to expand their knowledge of the human figure. Through demonstrations in clay, students will be given universal truths about the body regarding proportion, anatomy, and geometric construction. The head, torso, and appendages will be sculpted methodically, highlighting the essential characteristics that make us human. Knowledge in this field will enable you to draw/sculpt figures out of your head and it will give your work from life more power and realism. Monitored Figure Sculpture Workshop |
An evening class for artists interested in working on a sustained figure study from life (standing or seated nude). Instructor will set the eight week pose and work alongside students, occasionally offering individual critique . Each night starts with a short lecture addressing a part of anatomy.
