  • Sculpture tools and sketchbook are found at Art Things, Inc. in West Annapolis. Ask for my recommendation on tools. Roma Clay can be purchased there, also.

Figure Painting Alla Prima

  • Palette -- wooden, plastic, glass. I recommend Palettes by Lee Boynton, 410-268-4263.
  • Oil Paints -- Almost any brand is acceptable: Gamblin, Winsor Newton, Rembrandt, etc.
  • Colors (small tubes except White) -- Viridian Green, Permanent Green Light, Turquoise (Rembrandt brand only), Cerulean Blue or Cerulean Blue hue (cheaper), French Ultramarine, Dioxizine Purple, Permanent Magenta, Permanent Rose, Perylene Red (Gamblin brand only), Cadmium Red, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Cadmium Yellow Light, Titanium White (large tube!), Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna, Burt Sienna, Indian Yellow (I prefer WN)
  • Palette Knife -- A medium-sized flexible diamond shaped blade, RGM 44, Leow-Cornell J-2 4
  • Small bottle of Clove Oil - available at GNC or Pharmacy.
  • Canvas -- no sizes smaller than 12x16in! Good sizes 16x20in, 20x24in etc.
  • Charcoal -- Prismacolor or Danielle, extra-soft thin vine
  • Brushes - longer the bristle the better. I prefer filberts, rounds and flats. For small detail work get some tiny rounds.
  • Paper Towels -- Bounty is best!
  • Visor or hat with brim
  • Jullian French Easel or tackle box to organize paints.
