Portrait Process
“Portraiture demands precision, but mostly it requires soul.”
Portrait commissions can be painted in a variety of ways. The best method is for the artist to work directly from life, interacting on a personal level with their subject(s).
First, several preliminary sketches are made to work out composition, lighting, and wardrobe. Many photos may be taken at this stage as well. Once a small design sketch is completed, it is presented to the client for approval. After the plan is approved, work can begin on the official, life size painting. All portraits are painted life size unless specified by the buyer. Portrait paintings are executed in premium oil paint on fine linen canvas.
